Pompey administrator says FA Cup spot safe

Andrew Andronikou, the administrator of cash-strapped crisis club Portsmouth, insisted Tuesday there was no danger of the south coast side being kicked out of this season s FA Cup.

Portsmouth, who won the FA Cup in 2008, reached the semi-finals after beating Premier League rivals Birmingham City 2-0 at Fratton Park last weekend and are set to face the winners of the all-London quarter-final replay between Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham in the last four at Wembley.

However, Football Association rules state that clubs who enter administration will have their participation in the FA Cup re-assessed.

But Andronikou said: The FA are fully supportive of us and they want us to succeed and get to the other end.

There is no chance of us being kicked out of the FA …

Valencia eye shock Lawrence move

La Liga side Valenica are eyeing a shock move for former Manchester United youngster Tom Lawrence, .

The twenty-one year old, who is set to make his first international start for Wales on Friday evening, is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers from Leicester City – who he signed for last summer.

He has made twelve appearances for Rovers so far this season, scoring twice and his form led to Wales boss Chris Coleman handing him his senior international debut in last month’s Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Andorra, where he came on as a second half substitute.

Valencia assistant manager Phil Neville knows Lawrence well having been a coach at Old Trafford when the midfielder made his one and only appearances for United in a 3-1 win over Hull City towards t…

Bale: I´ll never say never to Premier League return

Gareth Bale has not ruled out a return to the Premier League but claims he is happy working under Rafael Benitez at Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old attacker has been handed a more central role by the under-fire coach this term, and feels he has settled well in the Spanish capital since his world-record £83million transfer in 2013.

Bale has been linked with a return to England next year with Manchester United keen to pry the Welsh winger from Madrid.

The former Tottenham attacker says he is eager for further success in Spain but he may return to England in the future.

My plan when I first started playing football was to try to reach the pinnacle – and Real Madrid is the pinnacle, he told the Mirror.

Now I’m here, I want to win trophies and to w…

Over 1.5 goals at Bournemouth vs QPR 4/11 for Tuesday’s Championship battle

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

In a battle between two sides who find themselves leading the chase in the play-off hunt, Bournemouth will welcome QPR to the South Coast on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Bournemouth might have been disappointed by their run of form when heading into the international break, the Cherries did find a much-welcomed boost over the weekend. Crashing out of the League Cup after a woeful 6-0 drumming at the hands of Premier League strugglers Norwich last month, Scott Parker s new squad were last seen laying down a marker. Once again tipped as a leading pick in the play-off hunt this season, the former Fulham boss saw his side breeze their way to a 3-0 romp against Barnsley on the South Coast. Glad to have seen leadin…

Pulisic ´not panicked´ by United States form ahead of World Cup

Christian Pulisic is not panicked about the United States form ahead of the World Cup despite a winless international break.

In the USA s final warm-up games for Qatar 2022, a poor 2-0 loss to Japan in Dusseldorf was followed by a limp goalless draw with Saudi Arabia in Murcia on Tuesday.

It means Gregg Berhalter s side will go into the finals with just one victory in their past five matches.

With Gio Reyna also suffering an injury scare against Saudi Arabia, this was not a successful camp for the United States.

But captain Pulisic pushed back on concerns around the team s performances, even if he acknowledged the need for improvement in the final third.

We had a pretty good first half, the Chelsea forward stated. I think we had a couple of half-…

Mancini: Manchester City acted like Judas

Roberto Mancini has accused the Manchester City hierarchy of acting like Judas in the closing stages of his reign at the Etihad Stadium.

The Italian, who is now in charge of Turkish champions Galatasaray, was sacked last May after a three-and-a-half-year stint in the Premier League.

Mancini led City to their first top-flight title for 44 years in 2011-12, but paid with his job after losing to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final a year to the day from that league triumph with Manchester United having taken their crown back three weeks earlier.

The former Inter boss was replaced by Manuel Pellegrini shortly after his dismissal, but he believes that City chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain had held talks with prospective successors for…

Lyon row looms over French League Cup final

Title rivals Bordeaux and Marseille will set aside their battle for league dominance to contest the first piece of silverware of the season in Saturday s French League Cup final.

The build-up to the match at the Stade de France was overshadowed, however, by a row over fixtures between Bordeaux and Lyon, who face off in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Lyon s league game with Grenoble was initially brought forward to Friday by the Professional Football League (LFP) to give Claude Puel s side more time to prepare for the European match but Bordeaux complained that the move gave Lyon an unfair advantage.

The league s Competitions Commission then decided to push the match back to the Saturday, the same day as Bordeaux s game with Mar…

escaped after a bit of controversy, Inter continued their dominating performances, and Sampdoria won the Derby della Lanterna in a very exciting week of Italian football.

Handball or no Handball?

Juventus were lucky to keep their streak alive of 30 consecutive home wins in the Serie A, and they emerged victorious due to a 97th minute questionable penalty call. Benatia put the hosts up early before Bacca equalized later on, but it was ultimately Dybala s last gasp penalty that sealed the deal for Juventus. Milan were understandably angry with the call, but they have an easy string of matches up ahead, and they ll need to make the most of their chances if they wish to be in contention fo…

You want me dead? – Pogba declines interviews as Mourinho rift continues

Paul Pogba has added fuel to the fire of his rapidly disintegrating relationship with Jose Mourinho by turning down interviews in the wake of Manchester United s latest defeat with a four-word reply: You want me dead?

A 3-1 loss at West Ham on Saturday means United have taken 10 points from their first seven games of the season, recording their joint worst start to a Premier League season, equalling the beginning of the ill-fated David Moyes era.

Pogba was replaced by Mourinho during the second half at London Stadium to wrap up a week of controversy involving the pair, who were seemingly involved in a training ground confrontation on Wednesday.

That came after Mourinho s men were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Frank Lampard s Derby County at home, and while the Po…
